Biography

Kate Appleton was born in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1870, the daughter of a retired Army Officer (Lieutenant Colonel, Veterinary Department)[1]. She trained as a nurse at the Infirmary, Manchester[2].

Nursing Service during the Boer War

Sister Appleton enrolled into the Princess Christian's Army Nursing Service (Reserve) (PCANSR) on the 1st May 1897, and was given the service number 15[2]. There is no record of her in the medal rolls for South Africa.
