APPLETON, Kate Gertrude

Biography

Kate Appleton was born in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1870, the daughter of a retired Army Officer (Lieutenant Colonel, Veterinary Department)[1]. She trained as a nurse at the Infirmary, Manchester[2].

Nursing Service during the Boer War

Sister Appleton enrolled into the Princess Christian's Army Nursing Service (Reserve) (PCANSR) on the 1st May 1897, and was given the service number 15[2]. There is no record of her in the medal rolls for South Africa.

Nursing Service in the Boer War

Sister Kate Gertrude APPLETON served in Princess Christian's Army Nursing Service (Reserve), enlisting May 1, 1897. Her service number was 15.[3][4]

After Military Service

The 1911 census shows her living at home and working as a nurse in a hospital.
