Biography

Caroline Edith ABBOTT was born in Sheffield on the 11th May 1875. She trained at Eccleshall Union Infirmary, joining them in 1908. After qualifying she became a theatre sister[1]. In 1914 she went to Belgium under the auspices of the Order of St John of Jerusalem[2].

Nursing Service in WW1

On the 8th December 1914 she enlisted in Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (Reserve). She was posted to the Connaught Hospital, Aldershot but by the 21st June 2017 she had joined the BEF in France. She had a number of postings to hospitals and CCS in France before being demobilised in 1919.

One of her annual reports was signed by A/Matron Lavinia Badger who was herself a Boer War veteran.
