Biography

Nurse Katherine Gertrude HILL was born in County Cork, Ireland.

Nursing Training

Nurse Katherine Gertrude HILL trained at Monkstown Hospital, Dublin. Also worked at Adelaide Hospital, Dublin.

Nursing Service in the Boer War

Nurse Katherine Gertrude HILL was a civilian nurse who cared for the British sick and wounded during the Boer War.[1][2]

Honours and Awards

RRC for service at Mafeking

After Military Service

Went to South Africa to nurse the late wife of Sir Kendal Franks. SHe was Matron of the Railway Hospital, Mafeking and the the Victoria Hospital mafeking and held that position during the siege. She was Matron of Vryburg Hospital in 1900 and Wynberg General Hospital in 1901. Married Lt CE Wimble of the Cape Mounted Police and started a family.
