Nursing Training

Nurse K CLAYTON trained at General Hospital, Cheltenham. Trained for 2 years at the General Hospital, Cheltenham (1880-1882) and subsequently obtained a 3 year certificate at the Salop Infirmary, Shrewsbury. Her appointment as Home Sister at the St Helena Home brought her to London, where she did good wor until 1895. After obtaining a certificate in maternity nursing at the York Road Lying-In Hospital, and in masage at the National Hospital, she did private nursing in England and New Zealand, and latterly in connection with St Michael?s Home, Kimberley, South Africa.

Nursing Service in the Boer War

Nurse K CLAYTON was locally employed caring for the sick and wounded during the Boer War.[1][2]

Died June 6, 1900

The Queen's South Africa Medal Roll notes: ?The news of the death of Nursing Sister Kate Clayton (nee Collins) at Bloemfontein from enteric fever will be received with deep regret.?[3]
