Nursing Service in WW2
207652 Sister FOWLER, Marjorie Helen Taylor, Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS) was serving at the Alexandra Hospital, Singapore. She left Singapore on the SS Kuala, which was sunk by Japanese bombers on February 14, 1942, she was picked up by the SS Tanjong Pinang which was sunk by a Japanese naval vessel on February 17, 1942.
"... evacuated from an island by the SS Tanjong Pinang … but not seen after that ship was sunk ..."[1]
She was the daughter of John and Mennie Margaret Fowler, of West Lewiston, Inverness-shire. She died at sea February 17, 1942, and her name is recorded on the Singapore Memorial Column 113<[2]
